Woman sacked for self-isolating!
Yes, its true. A shop worker with Type 1 diabetes was sacked for self-isolating at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and has been awarded a £7,000 payout at an Employment Tribunal.
It was unanimously agreed that she was unfairly dismissed and the deductions from her pay were unlawful.
The case (Reid vs Bennett) demonstrates how Covid-19 will and is causing more employment related claims.
Reid was advised by her GP to self isolate due to her own vulnerability and was also concerned because her partner was also in the vulnerable category due to his age.
Although Ms Reid won the tribunal, her employer is talking this to appeal.
